In the elderly home at the Motherhouse of the Maryknoll Sisters, many of the Sisters suffer from dementia. The younger Sisters used to work as nurses to tend the sick and aging but now they hire laypeople to look after the sick. Maryknoll Sisters of Saint Dominic were founded in 1912. Through their pioneering work in China to their suffering in El Salvador, the Maryknoll Sisters were the first US based Catholic Sisters to become missionaries.
